Patrick Hyland

I have served as a Franchise Developer and Franchise Development Team Leader for The Grounds Guys landscape management franchise since September 2010. Prior to joining The Grounds Guys team, I was the Senior Vice President of Rotobrush International, a manufacturer and seller of indoor air quality and energy efficiency products. During my 14-year tenure at Rotobrush, my passion was helping business owners in the service industry gain market share and increase profitability through core business development training including sales, marketing and operational efficiency. Today, I inspire and train my franchise development team to help business owners achieve their professional and personal goals via The Grounds Guys franchise system.

In your opinion, what is the #1 obstacle to a landscape contractor’s success in 2013?

In today’s industry, the greatest challenge for contractors is differentiating themselves from their competition. The barriers to entry are minimal to the landscaping and lawn care industry, so the market is saturated with low-quality players. We empower contractors with professionalism and business systems and enable to take their business to the next level.

Where do you think the landscaping industry is headed in the next few years?

Landscaping companies will improve communication with customers through technology and data-driven customer service. Also, more and more commercial customers are looking to national brands to service their multiple locations.

What’s your favorite thing about working with The Grounds Guys?

We have the opportunity to help people change their and their families’ lives for the better by building a successful business built on systems and not carrying all the weight on their own shoulders.

What was your very first job?

At 15, I worked as a bus boy at a Mexican restaurant.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of work?

I love spending time with my wife Cindy and my children Chelsi and Blake. I also enjoy golf, fishing, hunting, traveling, and being involved with our church.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“If you will do what most will not do for just the next few years, then you can do what they cannot do for the rest of your life.”
